United Way of Central Indiana - Addressing Today's Needs. Reducing Tomorrow's.

ReadUP

Change a child's life. Read. One hour a week is all it takes to change a child's future.

Why?

On average, children from middle-class families are read to 1,000 hours before entering 1st grade; for low-income families, that number drops to just 25 hours.

You can help.

United Way’s ReadUP Readers program is designed to help prepare preschoolers for academic success. The program matches volunteer readers with Central Indiana child cares to introduce and promote a love of reading. The goal is to provide a consistent opportunity for caring adults to read aloud to preschool children in a structured environment.

Volunteer readers commit to one hour per week or an hour every other week with a partner for an eight month period.

ReadUP reading is part of United Way of Central Indiana's education priority that includes both early childhood education and elementary education strategies.

ReadUP is a signature program of the Central Indiana Corporate Volunteer Council.
