23 Local Volunteers Graduate from United Way’s Ardath Burkhart Leadership Program

Comprehensive series provides community leaders with valuable tools

Twenty-three local community leaders have graduated from United Way of Central Indiana’s (UWCI) 2012-2013 Ardath Burkhart Series, part of Leadership United, a comprehensive leadership and board development program. The series is named in memory of the late Ardath Y. Burkhart, an Indianapolis community volunteer and philanthropist.

Established in 1986, the Ardath Burkhart series is designed for those already serving in a board or community leadership capacity. Participants learn about the governance and management issues facing nonprofits, community needs, community improvement tools and develop useful leadership skills.

Don Knebel, a partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP and former United Way annual campaign chair, moderated the series, drawing upon his own business and leadership experiences.

The next Ardath Burkhart Series begins in September and will be moderated by David Resnick, managing partner of Katz, Sapper & Miller LLP. With the firm since 1982, Resnick currently serves on United Way of Central Indiana's board of directors where he is immediate past board chair. He also serves on the boards of the University of Indianapolis, Arts Council of Indianapolis, Methodist Health Foundation, Beth-El Zedeck Foundation, Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis, Simon Hillel Center, and WFYI Foundation.
