5 Reasons ReadUP is the Perfect Volunteer Opportunity for You!

Are you looking for a new way to volunteer? Do you want to make a big difference in the life of a child? Then you should consider volunteering for ReadUP! Volunteers read with students to help them get on track — and stay on track — with grade-level literacy.

Here are 5 reasons ReadUP is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

1. You’ll Change a Child’s Life

First and foremost, your time spent volunteering with ReadUP will impact the life of a child. Not only will you help them improve their reading skills, they’ll develop confidence, trust and an interest in reading thanks to you!

2. It’s Simple

All it takes to be a ReadUP volunteer is one hour a week and a passion for helping children. If weekly is hard to pull off, partner with a friend, colleague or family member to shift to bi-weekly.

3. Timing is Everything

Third grade is an incredibly important time for children to develop their reading skills; it’s the first year they are truly transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn. Research shows that if a child enters fourth grade struggling to read, they are four times more likely to drop out of high school. Your time is an investment in a child’s future through ReadUP.

4. You Can Volunteer Close to Home or Work

With 41 sites to choose from, there’s bound to be a location close to your home or work. Plus, our locations span 17 different school districts and six counties! It’s easy to find a location close to you by using the map of locations on the ReadUP page.

5. Children Need ReadUP

Students in Central Indiana need you: in 2017, a national study found that 65% of fourth grade students in public schools were not proficient in reading. By providing these students with a caring and helpful mentor like you, they will improve their reading skills and be set on a path to success – in school and in life.
