United Way bringing Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Andrea Elliott to speak in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS – United Way of Central Indiana is bringing Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Andrea Elliott to Indianapolis to speak in March.

Elliott will speak alongside Dasani Coates, whose childhood is documented in the book “Invisible Child: Poverty, Survival and Hope in an American City.”

The two will speak at 9 a.m. March 5 at Indiana Landmarks, 1201 Central Ave., Indianapolis.

Elliott, a journalist for The New York Times, spent nearly a decade following Dasani, her family and their experiences with homelessness for the book.

United Way seeks to serve those living in or near poverty in the region. In Central Indiana, more than 244,000 households are living in, or are one emergency away from, poverty, according to a 2023 United Way report

Tickets starting at $25 can be purchased online. A $75 VIP ticket includes preferred seating and a book signing with the author.
