Colts Honor Suarez with NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award, Presented by Nationwide

Indianapolis – The Indianapolis Colts have selected Dr. Juan “Kiko” Suarez, chief community impact officer with the United Way of Central Indiana, as the recipient of the NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award, presented by Nationwide. The NFL, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) and Nationwide have partnered for the eighth annual edition of the awards during the 2018 celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.  Locally, the Colts have partnered with Morales Group Staffing to celebrate the month and further engage youth in the Hispanic community. The awards recognize the contributions of Hispanic leaders in each NFL market.  The Colts will honor Dr. Suarez during their Sept. 30 game vs. the Houston Texans. “I’m honored and grateful to represent United Way of Central Indiana, my Hispanic heritage and all Latinos in Indiana,” Dr. Suarez said. “In particular, I want to show young people that with education, hard work and effort, you will get ahead.” A native of Spain, Dr. Suarez is a key member of the United Way executive team and is responsible for evolving and executing its community impact activities in education, financial stability, health and basic needs.  He previously served as lead executive for communications and innovation at the Lumina Foundation and held similar positions with NextPhase Wireless, CEMEX and DuPont. Each award recipient will select an organization of their choice that serves the local Hispanic community to receive a $2,000 donation.  Suarez has chosen Excelencia in Education, a national nonprofit that works to accelerate Latino student achievement across the country, to receive the donation. Now in its second year, Nationwide’s support of the awards continues to demonstrate the company’s commitment to the Hispanic community. In addition to Nationwide’s partnership with HFF, it also has partnered with Latina Style, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Latino Professionals For America, and Prospanica. The sponsorship of the leadership awards aligns with Nationwide’s goal of partnering with organizations that share the company’s values of improving the lives of others and giving back to the community. “Nationwide is excited to continue to partner with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and the National Football League to once again present this year’s Hispanic Heritage Leadership Awards,” said Jennifer MacKenzie, senior vice-president of Marketing at Nationwide. “Nationwide takes pride in providing resources, support and service to Hispanic consumers and business owners across the country. We look forward to celebrating the charitable efforts of Hispanic leaders in all 32 NFL markets during Hispanic Heritage Month.” The Colts also are partnering with Morales Group Staffing to engage youth in the Hispanic community.
