Stamp Out Hunger in Central Indiana on May 12!
How many of your neighbors do you think are struggling with hunger? The truth is, 1 in 6 people in Central Indiana face food insecurity. The faces of these individuals are all too familiar -- children, seniors and working families struggling to make ends meet. Hunger is a persistent problem in Central Indiana, one that United Way of Central Indiana fights every single day, because our neighbors must have adequate food in order to achieve self-sufficiency. There’s something you can do to help. Join in on the 26th annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger food drive on May 12. The timing of this food drive is crucial: Food banks and pantries often receive the majority of their donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. By springtime, many pantries are depleted, entering the summer low on supplies at a time when many school breakfast and lunch programs are not available to children in need. By joining together, we have an amazing opportunity to make a difference in the lives of thousands of Central Indiana families who go hungry every day. All you need to do is place a bag of unopened, non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers your mail on Saturday, May 12. The carrier will do the rest! Once collected, the food will be distributed to local food pantries. United Way is proud to partner with NACL once again for this major food drive. Here's a list of the best non-perishable food items to donate, thanks to our partner Jump IN for Healthy Kids. With one simple act, you can help those in our community who don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Will you join us during Stamp Out Hunger? Learn more at uwci.org/events/stamp-out-hunger.
