United Way of Central Indiana’s leadership development program begins spring session
INDIANAPOLIS – Twenty community leaders will join United Way this week for the start of the spring session of Leadership United.
The program trains people to serve on nonprofit boards. United Way of Central Indiana has offered Leadership United for more than 30 years.
During the six-month program, participants will complete service projects and receive training in fundraising, marketing, finance, legal issues, ethics, and diversity, equity and inclusion related to serving on a nonprofit board. They also learn about United Way’s work in data and research, grantmaking, sector support, equity action and public policy – and about poverty and the population United Way serves.
Participants also will be matched with one of United Way’s accredited community organizations and serve on that nonprofit’s board as a fellow for six months.
Leadership United helps participants discover, develop and fine-tune their strengths and equips them with the skills needed for their fellowship and future board work, “so they can start with full momentum and serve that nonprofit well,” said Julie Plake, community engagement manager at United Way.
Two sessions of the program are offered each year, in the spring and fall. To learn more, visit uwci.org/leadership-united.
