United Way awards $1.75 million to organizations in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks and Morgan counties to help meet needs affected by pandemic

INDIANAPOLIS – United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) announced today it has awarded unrestricted grants totaling $1.75 million to human services organizations serving individuals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks and Morgan counties. These grants were made possible by support to UWCI from Lilly Endowment Inc. The grants build on relief efforts in these areas that were funded by a $3.5 million Lilly Endowment grant announced last year.

With this latest round of unrestricted grants, $5.25 million in total has been distributed to 90 organizations working in these counties of UWCI’s service area.

Workgroups comprising of UWCI community relations staff and county representatives, including staff of the counties’ community foundations, analyzed the needs in each area. Funding recommendations included food, housing, health, and transportation, mental health support for youth, families and seniors, and childcare and child/family safety programs.

“We are honored to receive funding from United Way of Central Indiana,” said Matt Wilson, executive director of the Boone County Mentoring Partnership. “This grant will be used to further engage youth and children in meaningful ways through mentoring, promote mental wellness with our mentors, mentees, and other young people in the community, and continue providing quality tutoring services that are helping students throughout the county improve academically.”
