United Way calls on thrill seekers to go Over The Edge August 14
Unique fundraising opportunity for 80 participants to rappel down a 23-story building in downtown Indianapolis; proceeds benefit United Way’s Basic Needs Fund INDIANAPOLIS – United Way of Central Indiana is looking for dozens of fearless philanthropists to rappel safely and securely down a 23-story building in Indianapolis on Friday, August 14, 2020 for its new event, Over The Edge for United Way Presented by GlickArt.com. This unique fundraising opportunity for thrill seekers – and those who want to conquer their fears – will benefit United Way’s Basic Needs Fund, a critical initiative to provide access to food, housing support, transportation and health services to struggling individuals, children and families in the community. Over The Edge for United Way allows for nearly 80 supporters to rappel down from the rooftop of the former AT&T building, now owned by Keystone Group, located at the corner of Ohio and Meridian streets. Each participant commits to raise at least $1,000 from friends, family members, co-workers, and neighbors. As of today, several community and civic leaders have pledged their participation, including Leonard Hoops, president and CEO of Visit Indy; Michael Huber, president and CEO of the Indy Chamber; Jack Mewhort, former Indianapolis Colts player; Ersal Ozdemir, president and CEO of Keystone Construction and Keystone Realty Group; Rafael Sanchez, president of private banking at Old National Bank; Sherry Seiwert, president and CEO of Downtown Indy; and Ryan Vaughn, president of Indiana Sports Corp. “I’m so proud of United Way for bringing our community together to help lift people out of this current health and economic crisis,” said Sanchez. “With ‘Over The Edge,’ we have a fun, innovative way to bring even more generous people together to raise needed funds to strengthen our community post-crisis. I’m putting my fear of heights aside to remember there are far too many residents in our community who live in constant fear of not having the basic essentials to survive – food, housing, transportation and access to healthcare services.” Over The Edge will adhere to safety precautions and social distancing guidelines throughout the event including, but not limited to: reduced contact for participants, masks and gloves for participants, disinfected equipment such as helmets and harnesses, and marked areas that abide by current CDC rules. United Way will not be encouraging spectators for the event; however, plans for a virtual ground party for family and friends of participants to watch the experience online are being considered.
