United Way of Central Indiana kicks off 100th anniversary celebration at 2017 Annual Meeting
Event highlights awards, board leadership and announces 2017-2018 Community Engagement Co-Chairs, Allison Melangton, Sr. VP of Events at Hulman Motorsports, and Mark Miles, President and CEO of Hulman & Company
Today, United Way of Central Indiana launched its 100th anniversary celebration at its annual meeting at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. The meeting recapped a year of community impact, strategic partnerships and new initiatives in front of a crowd of almost 900 enthusiastic supporters.
“This year, United Way of Central Indiana led an intentional effort to create a community where all children are prepared to succeed in school, all families are financially stable and all in our community are leading safe and healthy lives,” said Ann D. Murtlow, president and CEO of United Way. “We are pleased with our progress, and thanks to a strong network of individuals, companies, foundations and strategic partners, we are uniquely positioned for even greater impact for years to come.”
Murtlow and board chair Connie Bond Stuart reviewed highlights of United Way’s year of impact, which include:
• The expansion of Indiana’s pre-k program, giving thousands more children from low-income families access to the quality pre-k programs they deserve
• The successful launch of Great Families 2020, which will invest more than $20 million dollars in early childhood and financial stability agencies focused in five neighborhoods in Indianapolis
• The strengthening of United Way’s longstanding relationship with One America, resulting in a new partnership agreement designed to drive measurable change in our city
• The largest individual gift in United Way’s history, $5 million, made by Sarah and John Lechleiter
“It’s truly been a landmark year for United Way of Central Indiana,” said Bond Stuart. “Between the pre-k expansion, Great Families 2020 and the generous gift from Sarah and John Lechleiter, there is so much to celebrate, and so many people who have been and will continue to be impacted.” Bond Stuart is regional president of PNC Bank for central and southern Indiana. PNC, amongst other businesses in the region, have supported the far-reaching efforts of United Way, not only with financial donations, but extending impact with volunteerism.
Individual and Company Awards
United Way recognized the individuals, volunteers and companies that made a significant impact on the community.
Four companies earned the top prize – the Spirit United award – for exceptional volunteer and financial support of United Way. Spirit United is the most prestigious company award. It celebrates companies that have consistently supported and generously donated to United Way of Central Indiana. A Spirit United award winner knows it takes more than giving to improve our community, it takes volunteering and advocating too! The 2016 Spirit United Award Winners are: Cummins, Inc., Deloitte LLP, KAR Auction Services and Gregory & Appel Insurance.
IMPACT awards were given to three companies for the volunteer efforts tied to United Way priorities: Dow AgroSciences, Bowen Engineering and Home Bank SB.
The Exceptional Engagement Coordinator award was given to Ann Schneider and Mark Stoner, Allison Transmission and UAW Local #933; and Jim Hallett, CEO of KAR Auction Services, earned the Exceptional Executive award.
