United Way of Central Indiana Promotes Sara VanSlambrook to Chief Impact Officer
INDIANAPOLIS – United Way of Central Indiana announced today the promotion of Sara VanSlambrook to the position of Chief Impact Officer effective January 2, 2019. As a member of the executive team, VanSlambrook will assume responsibility for evolving and executing impact initiatives that are designed to move struggling families toward self-sufficiency, support the basic needs of the community’s most vulnerable individuals, and spur innovation in social services. She will lead United Way’s community impact, strategic information and public policy teams. VanSlambrook joined United Way of Central Indiana in 2016 as Director of Great Families 2020, the initiative aimed at integrating education and employment services to help stabilize and improve the lives of struggling families in five Indianapolis neighborhoods. In 2017, she was promoted to Senior Director of Community Impact and led United Way’s planning process for its new strategic framework, announced last fall. VanSlambrook was subsequently promoted to Vice President of Community Impact. VanSlambrook has 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector with expertise in program development, community engagement, fundraising, evaluation, and financial management. She is a steering committee member of Great Places 2020, a 2018 Tobias Fellow, 2014 Plan 2020 Fellow, and a graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series Class XLI. “Sara has the passion, drive, leadership skills and experience to serve as United Way’s chief impact officer,” said Ann D. Murtlow, president and CEO of United Way of Central Indiana. “Sara has been instrumental in the creation of our new community impact strategy, and I am confident that she is the right person to lead this effort for us as we execute our vision.” VanSlambrook earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Justice at Saint Mary’s College and her Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Social Administration from Case Western Reserve University. Additionally, she holds a certificate in fundraising management from Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. VanSlambrook replaces Dr. Juan “Kiko” Suarez, who is stepping out of the role to pursue a new opportunity in the higher education sector. “It’s been a great pleasure to serve United Way of Central Indiana during this important phase of the organization’s transformation,” said Suarez. “I have been truly inspired by the mission, people and values of United Way. There is simply no better choice than Sara to spearhead our community impact strategy moving forward, and I wish her and all of my colleagues the very best as they carry on this important work.”
