United Way of Central Indiana to Host 5k for Global Youth Service Day 4/22
High school students involved in the 2017 Youth Leadership United program prepare for a fun and meaningful day of service at White River State Park
Indianapolis, IN (April 20, 2017) – United Way has collaborated with Central Indiana high school and college students, community partners and early childcare centers to host a 5K walk/run to support youth health and fitness programs. On Saturday, April 22, Indianapolis and surrounding communities are invited to partake in the festivities at White River State Park from 12:30 - 3 p.m. Registration is $10 or bring a children’s fitness item (hula-hoop, jump rope, sports ball, nerf balls, hippity hop balls, etc.). Every item collected will be donated to an Indiana pre-k program to promote fun physical activity.
“This year’s Youth Leadership United Class was committed to hosting an event that would not only be fun, but also meaningful,” said Annie Smith, United Way’s Youth Engagement Manager. “They have all worked diligently with the goal of improving the quality of life for our state’s most vulnerable children as their motivation.”
In addition to a 5k, the Global Youth Service Day 5k will feature an abundance of activities including:

Appearance from Miss Indiana Teen USA, Paige Robinson
Warm up activities led by the Indianapolis Fire Department
Face painting
Obstacle course
Presentation of Global Youth Service Day Proclamation

Purdue Nutrition Education Program
