Statehouse Scoop: Speedy Session Start

The 2022 Indiana legislative session is off to a speedy start, and United Way of Central Indiana and our advocacy partners have been hard at work tracking, analyzing and testifying on bills that the House and Senate will take up. With two weeks of the short legislative session now in the books, here are the bills United Way and our partners have been actively engaged in, and how you can help advance our work:

Leading: Early Childhood Education

  • House Bill 1093: As leaders of the statewide Early Education Works coalition, we support Governor’s Holcomb’s Next Level Agenda and language in this bill that would strengthen Indiana’s early care and education sector. If you haven’t already, tell your representative you support strengthening Indiana’s early learning sector here.

  • House Bill 1107: This bill takes a two-generation (2Gen) approach to supporting adults trying to increase their skills and educational attainment, creating  a pilot program to provide career and support services – including child care, transportation and housing – to adults pursuing higher education and directs the state to study the impact of providing on-campus child care. Read more about why we support 2Gen approaches to policymaking here.

We simply can’t do this work alone. We need your help – and your voice – to help shape legislation that will positively impact the lives of residents in Central Indiana and across the state. Our Statehouse leaders want – and need – to hear from you, so thank you in advance for your efforts to make your voice heard.

Onward!
