Boone County BackPack Attack begins June 16

Community partnership will collect school supplies for children in need

Lebanon, IN: A community-wide school supply drive will begin June 16 and run through July 16. United Way of Central Indiana, Lebanon Kiwanis Club, Gander Mountain Distribution Center, Hachette Book Group, The Caring Center, Lebanon Area Boys & Girls Club, Skjodt-Barrett and the Lebanon Walmart are joining the Boone County Backpack Attack to collect new school supplies to distribute to area children in need.

More than 30 community partners have agreed to help collect supplies, including businesses, service organizations, churches and others. The school supplies will be distributed at the Boone County Backpack Attack Festival on Saturday, August 2 to Boone County students who qualify for free or reduced lunch services. The festival will be at the Lebanon Boys and Girls Club from 9-11 a.m.

Cash donations are also accepted. Checks can be made out to United Way of Central Indiana with Boone Backpack Attack written in the memo line, and mailed to United Way of Central Indiana – 221 N. Lebanon St. Lebanon, IN  46052. All donations of supplies and funds will be used in Boone County for Boone County students.

Christie Snyder, Boone County area director for United Way of Central Indiana, said ensuring that all local children are ready for school is an important community priority. “The sad reality is that many families in our county cannot afford to buy the basic school supplies that children are required to have in the classroom. The Boone County Backpack Attack helps remove a barrier to learning for many children living in poverty in Boone County,” she said.

Snyder requests that all donated school supplies be new. People can drop off school supplies at all Boone County libraries, the Lebanon Wal-Mart, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lebanon and Zionsville, The Arc of Greater Boone County, Witham Family YMCA, Akard's True Value and Marsh in Zionsville.  Boone County Backpack Attack donation boxes will also be located in other businesses and organizations throughout the county.
