Transportation Access
July 2023
When individuals and families do not have access to affordable and reliable transportation, they can struggle to complete essential tasks like going to work, shopping for groceries and seeing the doctor. These problems can often be felt deeply by people who experience mobility challenges, including the aging population and those with disabilities. Improving access to transportation, particularly in rural areas without regular public transportation, can enable everyone to meet their basic needs.
United Way partners with more than 45 organizations to address transportation challenges through solutions like accessible shuttle services for aging populations and those with disabilities, discounted bus and car trips, and legal assistance for restoring suspended licenses to help Hoosiers get to where they need to go.
