For economically unstable individuals and families, hard work alone is often not enough to escape poverty. That’s why United Way of Central Indiana is focused on economic mobility initiatives in its five-year strategic plan.

Today, many community organizations across our region offer bundled financial, employment and income services to individuals with the goal of helping them obtain a wage-sustaining job and improve their financial stability. To complement these services, United Way is piloting an add-on component to the work: the Workforce Pathways Accelerator.

How it works

As part of United Way’s economic mobility focus area, the Workforce Pathways Accelerator serves as an “on-ramp” for people seeking industry certifications, access to education and training, and direct connections to employer partners. The Career Partnerships Navigator works side-by-side with residents and neighbors to connect them to high-quality training and employment opportunities, while clearing hurdles along their path to financial stability. The Career Partnerships Navigator will form and sustain partnerships with various stakeholders, including training providers, employers, workforce boards, and others. These collaborations are crucial for ensuring individuals receive relevant training, access employment opportunities, and stay employed.
