United Way Kicks Off Winter Assistance Fund
INDIANAPOLIS– Thanks to support from Indianapolis Power & Light, Citizens Energy Group, Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, and individual donors, United Way of Central Indiana will offer the Winter Assistance Fund, a program that provides utility bill assistance to individuals and families who do not qualify for the state’s Low-Income Energy Assistance Program during the winter months.
Last year, the Winter Assistance Fund raised almost $192,500 and provided gas and electric utility assistance to 264 households comprised of 566 individuals.
“We continue to provide this service each year because supplying basic needs to our neighbors is the first step to helping them envision a life out of poverty,” said Mary Jones, community impact senior director at United Way. “Through the Winter Assistance Fund, we are able to keep more people safe and warm, alleviating some of the stress of the winter season.”
