United Way of Central Indiana Names Vice President of Government Relations

INDIANAPOLIS – United Way of Central Indiana has chosen Anne Penny Valentine as its vice president of government relations. Valentine will be responsible for leading United Way’s public policy and government relations work at the federal, state and local levels.Valentine, who most recently served as assistant vice president of workforce partnerships for Ivy Tech Community College, has held numerous positions in the nonprofit and public sector, including former vice president of the Arts Council of Indianapolis and legislative director for the Office of Governor Mitch Daniels.Over the years, United Way of Central Indiana has led coalitions, collaborated with organizations, and supported legislation on a variety of issues that helped eliminate the barriers to education, financial stability, health and basic needs in the community.“It’s an honor and a privilege to join a team that has already made tremendous progress with issues that matter to Hoosiers in our region and throughout Indiana,” said Valentine. “I look forward to building on that momentum with United Way’s leadership and grassroots network to advocate for changes in public policies that can help bring impact to a greater scale.”Valentine joins a robust United Way Impact team charged with driving the strategy and implementation of United Way’s new Impact Funds. Chief Impact Officer Sara VanSlambrook believes Valentine will serve as the ideal United Way representative to influence lawmaking that places struggling individuals and families first, supporting its goal of moving families out of poverty in its six-county region.“The recent success of advocacy campaigns for pre-k expansion and a stronger hate crimes law is something I am very proud of,” said VanSlambrook. “I am confident that Anne will continue our good work and identify other opportunities where we can positively impact even more people in Central Indiana.”Currently, Valentine is a commissioner for the Indiana Arts Commission and has previously served as a board member for St. Richard’s Episcopal School, Indy Parks and Recreation, and Indiana Natural Resources Foundation. She is a graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series, Class of XXXVI.
