United for ALICE is a driver of innovation, research, and action to improve life across the country for ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) and for all. Through the development of ALICE measurements, a comprehensive unbiased picture of financial hardship has emerged.
Bringing data and research on the mismatch between low-paying jobs and the cost of survival, ALICE partners come together to advance thought leadership, advocacy and collaboration to develop solutions to promote financial stability at local, state and national levels.
ALICE, a grassroots movement led by United Way of Northern New Jersey, continues to spread across the United States as partnerships with United Ways, corporations, nonprofit community-based organizations and foundations in multiple states are United for ALICE.

Learning More about the Complex Nature of Poverty and ALICE
Living below a basic cost-of-living threshold presents challenges that many of us never consider. Yet, nearly one in four (24%) of Indiana households are ALICE and more than one in three (37%) of Indiana residents cannot afford the basics of housing, food, health care, child care and transportation. Taking a walk through the shoes of families working hard to build a better life with greater opportunity offers new possibilities when we gain a deeper awareness of the realities of this demographic. The ALICE simulation, Making Tough Choices, provided by Indiana United Ways is a helpful resource to experience life as an ALICE family as you continue to learn more about the needs impacting Central Indiana. We invite you to engage in this tool and to share it with others.
