Accreditation allows nonprofits to apply for United Way grants, access training and resources

The gift will help nonprofits across the region with construction, renovation and technology needs 

Since relaunching in 2020, United Way of Central Indiana’s Technology Fund has awarded over $2.2 million to more than 80 organizations to fund 105 projects across the region. Supported by funding from Lilly Endowment Inc., it’s one of three United Way funds – Technology, Facilities Maintenance and Capital Projects – designed to help organizations with infrastructure needs.

United Way of Central Indiana announced Wednesday that it is awarding $10.5 million in grants to 34 organizations from its Family Opportunity Fund.  

PACE is one of 12 accredited partners with United Way of Central Indiana to use the Center for Working Families model, which helps people and families get on a path to financial stability.

Accredited with United Way since 2022, the nonprofit runs a 16-bed women’s shelter, with plans for a men’s facility in the works

Funding will help nonprofits across the region address access to food, housing, health care and transportation

Technology and Facilities Maintenance are two of six sector support initiatives United Way provides – with backing from Lilly Endowment Inc. – to help accredited nonprofits respond to emergencies, support staff, improve infrastructure and technology, and make both planned and unexpected repairs.

The Family Opportunity Fund works to improve the education, financial stability and overall health and well-being of the whole family

United Way’s Family Opportunity Fund has allowed Hawthorne Community Center to hire family coaches, who focus on helping households reach their goals, said Caleb Sutton, Hawthorne’s executive director.

Concord and United Way of Central Indiana have been partners for over a century, since United Way’s earliest days as a Community Chest. During the 2021-2022 grant cycle, United Way awarded Concord $150,000 from the Basic Needs Fund and $100,000 from the Family Opportunity Fund.
