GivingTuesday: Help Us Stock a ReadUP Library

Today, children in Central Indiana need the knowledge, skills and credentials to eventually secure jobs that will sustain families. And success in the future will take innovation - innovation that will be driven by youth who are empowered through education. It's exactly why this GivingTuesday United Way is raising money to stock the library for our readUP program. By pairing community volunteers with students who are struggling to read for an hour every week, we're helping students get on track - and stay on track - to achieving grade-level literacy, because the data is clear: children who read at or above grade-level are more likely to succeed in school and in life. GivingTuesday is a global movement that harnesses the generosity of millions of people to support the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live. First launched in 2012, GivingTuesday was a simple idea: one day where all people, no matter where they lived, were encouraged to do good. Last year, more than 3.6 million people from 150 countries raised $400 million on this global day of giving. United Way of Central Indiana stands ready to keep the momentum going this year by directing these investments toward increasing childhood literacy in our community.  During the 2018-2019 school year alone, United Way's readUP program ran in 40 schools within 15 different school districts and 6 central Indiana counties. More of readUP's impact in Central Indiana:

  • Approximately 700 students tutored in the program
  • Over 1,000 volunteers engaged in readUP throughout the year
  • More than 14,000 hours dedicated to readUP tutoring
  • 84% IPS readUP students passed the IREAD standardized test

This year GivingTuesday falls on December 3, and you can join in helping improve education and childhood literacy in Central Indiana. If you've never been a part of GivingTuesday, let this be your year to power education and fuel successful communities. Your gift will provide
