Women United Member Spotlight: Debby Routt
Tell us about yourselfI am the Vice President of Human Resources Operations for OneAmerica. I have lived in Indianapolis for 30+ years after living in Heidelberg, Germany for five years. I am originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. What are you passionate about?Family! This includes my husband of nearly 43 years, 2 children, 1 daughter in law and a brand-new granddaughter. I love to travel, read and connect people for a purpose. When and how did you first become involved with United Way?I have given to United Way for as long as I can remember! I have volunteered for both United Way and United Way affiliated charities. I strongly believe in United Way’s mission. Why do you choose support United Way’s mission? They work to assist as many people as possible with a diversified array of challenges. They are strategic and aren’t trying to ‘band aid’ a problem but trying to determine a root cause and solve a problem. They are proactive with linking resources to people and ensure money gets to the right places, so you don’t need to worry about inappropriate use of funds. As a OneAmerica employee, how do you feel about the new level of partnership with United Way?I think it links top companies in Indy to a common purpose when it comes to finding solutions to real problems in a community. We are always greater as a team than we are as an individual entity. Also, as a corporation it allows us to link what the United Way does to what we do in the communities we work and live in. When did you become involved with Women United?Their mission at the time spoke to me. That mission has evolved even more and enticed me to return. It is an absolute pleasure to partner with such a great group of women. What is your favorite memory or event with Women United?Kit drop off at two daycare centers and spending time with the children exploring the kits. It was such a wonderful moment reading to them and seeing the absolute joy in their eyes. Kids never judge at that age, they are joyful.
