Women United Member Spotlight: Shondria Seaton
Tell us about yourself. I was born in Macon, Georgia and received my undergrad degree in Computer and Information Sciences from Florida A&M University and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. In my current role, I am a driver for organizational change management and the process owner for the ITIL Continual Service Improvement Service Management process. I enjoy traveling with family and friends, working out and occasionally compete in bodybuilding shows. What are you passionate about?I am very passionate about volunteering and helping in the community. I volunteer for ReadUp, serve on the Fathers and Families Center Annual Luncheon planning committee and the Women United steering committee. I am a proponent for advancing STEM programs and serve on the board for the Black Data Processors Association (BDPA) Indianapolis chapter as Process Improvement Director. I’m an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Indianapolis Alumnae Chapter. I also have a passion for teaching children, which led me to become a Christian Storyteller at Traders Point Christian Church with Wiggle Worship, a Christ-centered curriculum for ages 3-5. When and how did you first become involved with United Way?I first become involved with United Way as a summer intern for 3M in St. Paul Minnesota. I joined in on the United Way campaign, toured, and volunteered at a couple United Way Agencies. Why do you choose support United Way’s mission?There is power in numbers. I appreciate the fact that United Way empowers communities through a myriad of programs to meet people where need is. I can clearly see how United Way has impacted the Indianapolis Community and there is potential to power even more common good. As a Lilly employee, how do you feel about their level of partnership with United Way? I am blessed to work for a company that truly take corporate responsibility and community involvement to another level. The bar has been raised and to who much is given, much is required. We all have a responsibility to do our part in the community. People uniting as one towards a common goal is how we bless our neighbors and ourselves. We need each other and I’m proud that Lilly supports and encourages that. When did you become involved with Women United?I joined Women United in 2016. What interested you most about Women United?I joined Women United to collaborate with other like-minded women at all levels within their organizations to further advocate for quality education for all. Additionally, I desire to expose young girls to positive female role models and through Women United I have been able to network with some pretty dynamic women. What is your favorite memory or event with Women United?One of my favorite events was getting to know the other steering committee members. We all got together over wine and light refreshments at the previous chair’s house. I enjoyed it because getting to know the women personally helps to uncover potential opportunities for focus areas for Women United. I also LOVE the lit kit builds. I was positively overwhelmed at the number of kits a group of focused dedicated people could build in such a short period. As a woman in IT, I am extremely excited to add STEM focus to future kit builds! Teamwork makes the dream work!
