Advocacy in Action with the Nonprofit Learning Center

Advocacy can be defined as any action that speaks in favor of a cause. In this session, you'll learn about the impact of advocacy in the political arena and how advocacy can directly impact the communities you serve. Join us to learn more about UWCI’s efforts, how you can partner with us and the effect that collective voices can have on policy. You’ll also hear from a local leader who has successfully advocated for development and opportunities in the communities she serves. Come and learn how to use your organization’s mission and story to put advocacy in action!

Meet our speakers:

Anne Valentine, Vice President of Government Relations, United Way of Central Indiana

Anne’s career has covered three different industries: state government, nonprofit and higher education. Prior to serving as the Vice President for Workforce Partnerships at Ivy Tech Community College, she worked in the office of Governor Mitch Daniels in various roles, including policy director and legislative director.

Ashley Gurvitz, Chief Executive Officer, Alliance for Northeast Unification

Ashley believes in the power of advocacy and its ability to affect long-lasting change. Before joining the team at ANU, Ashley served as the Community Development Manager for Eastern Star Church’s ROCK Initiative. Within its first two years, the initiative’s efforts provided approximately 5 million dollars in community projects around housing, food access and high-level social impact. Prior to her role at Eastern Star Church, Ashley served as the Internship Director and a Senior Legislative Assistant for the Indiana House of Representatives.

We very much look forward to hearing from our speakers and seeing you there - virtually!
